April 5, 2025 at 11:33 amRecently, I bought a chutney powder from Swiggy Instamart and was shocked at the price difference. The product’s price was โน45, but Swiggy Instamart listed it at โน80 with a “massive” discount of โน2. ๐คThis isnโt my first experience with such inflated pricing, but it’s definitely crossing the line now. If a product has a fixed USP and MRP, how can platforms justify an 80% markup?
I wouldnโt have been surprised if they charged separately for convenience or delivery. But artificially inflating the price and then showing a discount? Thatโs misleading at best.
Maybe this is legal. Maybe Iโm overthinking it. But for customers who arenโt actively checking, this means paying way more than they should.

April 5, 2025 at 11:36 amThe amount is not worth the mental agony and these delivery platforms charge many hidden fees that inflate the price-

April 5, 2025 at 12:43 pmThat’s the convenience cost of you getting a 45 rupee item delivered to you sitting at home and clicking a few buttons maybe?Screenshots of it didn’t happen. I can order a 10 rupee chocolate on Instamart but they have mini cost delivery which would result in the chocolate costing me alot more than 10 rupees. No court would hear this case and they shouldn’t entertain such cases as well when there are so many other cases to be heard and acted upon, yes even in consumer courts.

April 5, 2025 at 11:40 amMaybe an employee made a mistake and gave a smaller portion? Or they didn’t properly update the prices on the website instead of trying to file a consumer complaint first contact their support and if they deny it only then try filing a complaint cause you will have a better case that way. Make sure to take a screenshot of the conversation. Also my guess is its most likely a human error and not something they are doing on purpose.

April 5, 2025 at 11:55 amIf you decide to go ahead, you can literally make Lakhs of rupees or even crores of rupees off of this mistake from their end by terming it as Fraud. Engage a lawyer and set the deal as outcome based profit sharing -

April 5, 2025 at 12:11 pmBro, take all evidence and file a complaint with National Consumer Helpline (NCH).This doesnt involve any hassle, as everything is done from your doorstep.
If no resolution, then escalation to consumer complaint also can be done online but you will need to go to court on dates physically. Most of the times, these companies dont defend case as litigating these cases cost more (especially when they are guilty) but this need you to go to court on dates, so you can decide if it is worth the hassle but at the least file complaint with NCH.

April 5, 2025 at 11:59 amIโm sorry, what made you think theyโre running a charity? ๐ซฉ Businesses find new ways to make money all the time. They canโt deliver things to your couch without you lifting your finger for the same cost as a store. -

April 5, 2025 at 12:30 pmPeople want to take a small time roadside vendor charging 5 rupees extra on top of MRP calling it cooling charges or whatever to consumer court. Here you have a behemoth simply getting away charging 2x the price of the product, not just with one but every customer purchasing the product and the advise is to ignore because it’s not worth the hassle. You have a valid case OP, you should pursue charges against them. No one is allowed to charge above MRP. Atleast do the bare minimum to help fellow consumers escape from their malpractice.

April 5, 2025 at 12:58 pmSo listing on the platform is done and controlled by the brand not the platform, these are technically marketplaces and have no liability if the brand lists a wrong price. Report to customer care and get a quick refund, and tell them this and they might solve for it. -

April 5, 2025 at 1:38 pmconsumer court? bruh i don’t think you understand the difference… do you mean National consumer helpine NCH? yes it’s worth it…issue will be solved in a month….do you mean actual consumer court? nah you will end up spending 50k on lawyer and hearings.. travel and just the court costs will be upto 5000 from print outs to bundles… yes you will be compensated very well if you win but it may take 5 years… although consumer courts are tend to be very fast but companies know how to drag things in the name of evidences and more research-
