Govt college hiked fees mid course. Is this even legal?

School of planning and architecture Delhi is the best govt institute in the country for architecture related courses and my batch joined in July 2024. The fee structure was such that the total fees was 59,000 for each of the 4 semesters of our master’s degree.

Now in December, they told us that the fees for the remaining 3 semesters would be increased from 59,000 to 77,000. This is not what was agreed upon during admission. Many students have also taken a student loan for this course but the college has just decided to hike the fees mid course without any explanation.

Is an institute allowed to do this and can I take legal action against them? What should be the students’ course of action here?

NAL. Shouldn’t be. I mean this was a problem in medical colleges as well. NMC put and end to it.

Ensure the hike is in tuition fees only and not some hostel related fees. Go through your prospectus once. Then create a hue and cry over social media/media file something with the Delhi HC.
