HELP! How to change name of minor in Birth certificate

We have changed my brothers name in gazette, published in local newspaper and also have an affidavit.

The school is not accepting those proofs to change the name. They are asking to change the name in birth certificate.

We contacted the municipal office in Una and Gir Somnath in Gujarat and they are saying that we do not change names in birth certificate. If changing names is possible in all over India how come a small district is denying to do it? The people in main positions are also saying that we cannot do this.

Please help on how to do it.

No you don’t have to change name in the birth certificate. The proof of Gazette is enough. If they still force you to change it ask them to provide you a written statement in school’s letter pad that its necessary or they would never accept. If they provide it file a case against them.

Also do I have to change in the birth certificate in later stages? If yes then how?

We had named our daughter at the hospital during birth and the birth certificate had that name. Then we had a change of mind and put out the name on gazette (it is easier to do it yourself, so don’t pay anyone to do it). Now whenever you go for an aadhar/pan card, you got to submit both documents (a scanned copy with q page of birth certificate and a following page with gazette information in a single PDF). During school registration, show an aadhar card with the new name. Hit me up if you need more information.

Tldr: you cannot change the name on a birth certificate. Just dona name change gazette and create an aadhar/pan/passport with the new name.

Did you change the name in aadhar card before asking for a change of name in school?
My brother’s aadhar card is already made with the old name.

We got the name changed before enrolling my daughter to school. They did ask for birth certificate and we gave the BC and the gazette together alongwith the aadhar card with the new name.
Changing names is such a hassle bro.

If the aadhar is already made get the name changed on it first (with gazette as a proof) and then enroll to school or whatever other documents you intend on changing. Far easier

He is already enrolled in school. He will go to 9th class next month and we have to get everything done by then.
We are gonna talk to the principal first and she is troubling us by asking the BC and not accepting the gazette on its own 😭

BC + gazette together with a covering letter. You should consider the risk of goof ups on the school leaving certificate and hall ticket, and potentially also colleges. Not that it’s not been done before but the hassles increase with age
