UI am a research scholar and i was carrying some 18650 cells, some electronics evaluation boards and talcum powder for personal use.
After screening, there was an army guy who without questioning or asking me, just threw it away. Didn’t even listen to me. These items were crucial to me especially the evaluation boards which i couldn’t put on the flight due to the risk of airlines baggage loss.
What can be done here? Can any legal action be taken here?

UTrust me these fucking airport dudes are dumb, I am an engineering student and I regularly carry these items the amount of times I had to explain to them that these are allowed to be carried and pull up DGCA guidelines is frustrating. One dude was about to throw my LiPo battery because the size looked big and was not allowed according to him, had to show him the guideline that it’s not the physical dimensions but rather the capacity of battery that mattered. OP I believe you can take it up with their superiors, consult a lawyer

So in this case, when they aren’t listening to you or they threw your stuff away. What did you do?

UOne of them detained my stuff so I asked to speak to a superior, I’ve never got my stuff taken away by them so not sure about what to do on that front :/

BHaha once I had to take a large battery.
I expected this and took print out of FAA limits and how to calculate the wh of battery.
After 10 mins of explaining basic physics equations he allowed.
But this also means you can take illegal items.
FAA limit is 100 Wh I believe.
For 3.3v it’s 27000 mah.
But if it’s 10 V this drops to 10000mah.But the security guys just check the mah written outside is less than 27k.

UIt doesn’t make sense that CISF soldiers on duty will be able to understand scientific stuff. If they could, they would be in your place or higher, isn’t it? Besides, they have to deal with hundreds of people every hour. Some of them arrogant engineering students like you. So many VIPs passing through. Etc etc.
It always works to be polite and carry relevant paperwork. They are there for our security and they do the job well, 99.999% of the time.

UWtf do you mean like me? I didn’t get a chance to tell anything to him. I am not an engineering student, i don’t know where you got that from. If iwas a student, it would be very hard to take legal actions. Lol, learn to read.

PThere is no legal solution for everything. If you are a research scholar which requires these items for your work, it makes sense for you to carry with you a letter authorising you to carry it in flight with due clearance of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security and/or Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) – the army does not do internal civil security only CISF is responsible and this is a Central Government Paramilitary Force. They are trained on certain aspects of Aviation Security. Obviously there may be knowledge gaps. I spoke to a friend in CISF and he has advised that there are two ways you can address this 1) Write to the Bengaluru Airport website and /or 2) CISF website and see the lost and found section and write to them

UMost likely the OP is dumb and cannot differentiate between Army and CISF. Being a research scholar doesn’t mean he is smart.
Also, if you are carrying specialized equipment, why not carry relevant paperwork?
As far as I know, the CISF people posted in airports are educated and polite, because they have to deal with citizens and VIPs all day. Within CISF, an airport posting is a coveted one. Only the best ones get it.

UCISF is like a reserve force for the central govt. They usually guard and protect industrial units of the central govt. So their postings are near PSU factories, nuclear installations or VIP protection, crowd management during processions / riots etc. All these require long days in the sun, boring and remote places, dealing with rowdy people.
Now compare this with an airport posting. Air-conditioned work place, decent (and usually polite) crowd, sitting/standing job rotation every half hour. Also in International airports, they get to make some oopar ka kamai.

BThey never throw themselves, they tell you that you can’t carry and you have a choice of throwing or take the item and cancel your flying and go back home instead of next destination.

ULol, with those number of cells, anybody will be suspicious. For ex, in international flights carrying a lighter or matchbox or even lint is prohibited. Int flights often give sugar packets and a small amount of bottled alcohol. But if mix both of em and burn, it acts like a fucking bomb. The guard simply did his job, he is not a technical person to know why you need to carry those many cells at once. Plus the electrical evaluation board can be used in many ways you haven’t thought. I see the guard didn’t do anything wrong

RFrontline CISF officers are operating standard practice. you should have stood your ground.
I once brought a toy from europe to india for my daughter and was stopped by them, I clearly told them let me talk to your senior, he did take me to his senior and I requested her. The senior officer allowed it after she saw I was not giving up. -

MOkay so I have done this before. When carrying dev boards and lipo batteries go to the checkin counter even if you only have a carry on and declare to the staff that you are carrying some sensitive components. They will then most likely direct you to the special screening section where your baggage is manually checked by CISF. Answer their questions and you are good to go!

UOne of the reply you have got to this question is that they can’t simply throw stuff without giving you an option to not fly with it and take it back i.e you miss the flight and go home with your stuff back.
This is how it should work. The cisf personnel cannot just throw it away without giving you that opportunity to decide
I am 1000% sure there is a recording of the entire event. There are some 3 millions cameras inside an airport and it is perhaps one of the places in the world where everything is recorded in this day and age
Request the CCTV footage. If you are right, then they have to compensate you
Easier said than done though.
