Hello All, Posting from another account .

I’m posting this on behalf of a friend who is facing an issue with his landlord in Whitefield, Bangalore.

My friend is paying a monthly rent of ₹28,000. He wants to claim HRA tax exemption, which requires the landlord’s PAN details as the rent exceeds ₹8,333 per month.

However, the landlord is refusing to provide his PAN details and is not open to discussing the matter, simply saying he won’t share

        Given this situation:
        1. Are there any alternatives to claim HRA without the landlord’s PAN?
        2. Are there any official grievance platforms or legal routes my friend can take to resolve this issue?

Would really appreciate any advice or suggestions on how to navigate this. Thanks in advance!

Find a new place immediately. An unethical landlord will cause a lot of trouble in the future.

I understand that moving out is a practical solution, and that’s already in consideration. However, the issue here goes beyond just one person or one house. It’s not about asking for anything illegal—providing PAN details is the landlord’s obligation if the rent exceeds ₹8,333 per month.

If tenants keep quiet and don’t address this legally or formally, landlords will continue avoiding their responsibilities, possibly evading taxes. This kind of behavior needs to be called out so that others don’t face similar issues.

Any suggestions on how to raise this issue through proper grievance channels or take legal action would help not just my friend but others in similar situations.

No solution. Best way is not to pay rent for the HRA loss and move out immediately

If that has the proper amount, it should also have his PAN card number which he can give tot he company. Rent Receipts are required then.
