April 24, 2025 at 3:41 pmI got married last year. My wife has been abusive (not physically, but extremely verbally abusive) towards me and my parents. She creates fake stories and tells them to her parents. Although her parents know how she is, they don’t confront me — but they still believe some of the stories.Things have escalated in the last few weeks. She has been blackmailing me with threats of filing a fake domestic violence case. What can I do to avoid this?
More info: Apparantly she has attempted suicide in her school days.

April 24, 2025 at 3:48 pmHi. I’m a Delhi based lawyer, with an extensive experience in matrimonial and related laws. Besides gathering evidence evincing her violent behaviour, there isn’t much you can do at the moment. Capture all that you can, so that you can use it when the opportune moment comes.-

April 24, 2025 at 3:49 pmCan I put a secret cctv camera? Will it help? Most of the things happen in the bedroom. Putting a camera may backfire.-

April 24, 2025 at 3:56 pmThat might amount to breach of her privacy. Try video recording when she’s all aggressive and threatening you. Or if there are any messages proving the same.-

April 24, 2025 at 3:49 pmNAL You need to start collecting proofs. and consult a lawyer. If i was you i would have filled a case before she can if the lawyer approves but then again I am a woman it would have been easy for me. But seriously you need to be top of her at all times. Go see a lawyer tomorrow itself -

There are apps that let you record video with sound while your phone looks like it’s off/not using camera app.
All you can do right now is get proof of her abusive language and threats-

It’s all he said she said, until she moves the court. In that case, you will have to file an anticipatory bail(depending upon what charges she levies against you). For now, as someone here suggested, you cant do much except record her as well as YOUR tracks. Prepare a solid alibi so you can refute events directly. Please do not hesitate to send a personal message if you need further assistance. I am a practicing advocate based in NCR and I assure all the assistance and confidentiality.
Best of luck -

April 24, 2025 at 6:23 pmNAL. Move away from your parents. Either live with/close to her parents or just away from your own parents. That way, they can’t be implicated in anything. Also, have them text instead of calling.Early on when my brother and SIL fought, there was one relief to my mom and that was that no one else could be implicated.
How are your parents handling this? Did you tell them?

April 25, 2025 at 10:23 amI handled a similar case three months ago, where a newly married wife was creating trouble in the home.
In such cases, we need to be reactive rather than proactive, we can only prepare to defend ourselves. Here’s what was done:
1. The family was asked to document and journal, with specific details, whenever the daughter-in-law fought.2. They documented any calls, texts, or any sort of communication.
3. We installed CCTV cameras in the house. These were safely installed in common areas such as the drawing room/hall, kitchen, and any other room where the wife did not primarily sleep.
In this particular case, as the wife was very troublesome, the whole family not only agreed to the surveillance but actually requested to be put under CCTV monitoring themselves.
Now, whenever a dispute occurred, the husband would come out of the bedroom and sleep in the drawing room. Eventually, he started sleeping in the drawing room altogether. The family would do the same to avoid further confrontations. The daughter-in-law started abusing the presence of the CCTVs. She would initiate fights at random times to disrupt the whole family’s sleep. This negatively impacted the husband’s father, who had to be hospitalised due to blood pressure issues, in which her actions played a role.
Eventually, the CCTV footage and the documented journals were used to seek a divorce on the grounds of cruelty.
Under pressure and threats of trumped-up charges of elder abuse, she agreed to a mutual divorce. The case is currently under procedure, but she has so far kept her word not to file any further cases.-
