How much do lawyers charge in a settlement case?

I have a property dispute going on in high court. Considering the other party might be willing to settle, how much % will the lawyer charge?

The longevity of the case, the area of the land like if it’s huge remember the lawyer also has to feed bread and butter to his family.
And finally the location of the land eg) delhi is expensive so the land there will be the same

Not necessarily, it can go upto 20% if the quantum is less, like small property disputes, if senior counsel is engaged, and such… generally you should be asking this at the beginning with the advocate

Nothing . As we both parties agreed we skipped the lawyer . He tried to be smart and asked for 1l but we didn’t give him nothing . He was paid fees for appearing in court .

We still haven’t gotten to the appearing in court stage yet. I am ready to settle, my lawyer suggests it too, and the opposition’s lawyer also prefers settling. We don’t know about the other party.

The other party has to agree first too. You can 2x the lawyer fees if it goes through (or max 50k ) . Going by percentage is not wise . Some one suggested 10% . So for a 10cr property you pay 1cr ? Doesn’t make any sense .

Which high court?

Why would a lawyer charge %?

Parties are settling amongst themselves. Lawyer is only entitled to his fee as was agreed upon initially.

If the lawyer is making special efforts to get the matter settled, then you can agree to a fee for these efforts. Otherwise, nothing is payable.
