March 10, 2025 at 3:42 pmMy father passed away in 2012, my grandfather passed away in 2024. I’m not able to obtain a copy of the legal heir certificate of my grandfather’s as my aunts and grandmother (they applied it) refuses to give it to me and my mother. Approached the tahsildar regarding this problem. They refused to give us a copy. They suggested us to apply for a new legal heir. But it is impossible because we don’t have legal proofs of my deceased grandfather and other legal heirs (grandmother and aunts). Can I apply for the certificate through RTI? Will they provide a copy? How else to approach? I’m also scared that they obtained a certificate by illegally omitting my father’s name so that they can claim properties. -

March 12, 2025 at 7:22 amYes, you can file an RTI with the local authority (Tahsildar’s office) requesting a copy of the legal heir certificate issued for your grandfather. If they illegally omitted your fatherβs name, this can be challenged legally. If they deny your RTI, you can appeal. Need guidance? [RTIwala](https://www.rtiwala.com) can assist.
