        Hyderabad,

My friend from college(**intermediate**) contacted through **Instagram** a couple of days ago. He told that he needs a favor as there is an emergency(one of his friend met with an accident). He sent me a few pics without face of the injured guy(might be old). I lent him a certain amount(*without any legal agreement*) by borrowing from my father thinking it is urgent. He promised to return the amount in a day. Now, he doesn’t lift my calls and ignoring my texts. He switched off his mobile since yesterday night. Now that my father is involved in this, I cannot ignore it.

Yesterday he promised to return the amount but when I called him, he ignored the call texted that he is visiting the injured guy’s relatives and he’d send me this money back in one hour. This has been the case for the whole day.

So yesterday, I contacted another friend from college and enquired about him, to my surprise, he told the same story to this guy(sent the same pics) and looted money 6 months ago. He was helpless so he quit pursuing the guy.

I only have his ***mobile number, Instagram handle, LinkedIn handle***. I do know where he went for his under-grad and his current workplace from these sources. I took the screen shots of the chats for safety.

I need advice in a few things:
        1. How do I legally proceed to claim my money back? (I’ve heard recovery suit is one option)
        2. How can I spread awareness in my social circle preventing others from falling pray?
        3. Can I approach his college/workplace to get his family details incase I need to file a case/recovery suit.

This might sound repetitive but I want to get a solution to this. I feel miserable for falling to this trick.

Respectfully? I would smash and get my money back. Why’d you care about such guy for respect?

Lodge a police complaint and threaten the shit out of him.

                    What respectfully?

I got back my money after threatening police action and you should do the same. File an FIR, if you have his email ID, let him know that you are filing an FIR via email. I am hoping that you transferred the money via upi or bank transfer, so keep those records handy

Yes I have the records. I will contact the legal authorities today. Was it a hassle through out the process?

So i didn’t actually have to file an FIR, i threatened it and the guy immediately gave it back. It shouldn’t be much hassle, file the FIR first. Police should pay a visit to them.

                              Lawyer from Hyderabad

First try to go to your inter college and get the details of his address and send him a legal notice to his address and to his workplace also (if any). Alternatively try to lodge a complaint against him.

Feel free to ping me. If you have any further queries.
