        My grandfather owned a small plot on which there was a house with many small rooms given on rent, back in the eighties.
        One particular tenant (a poor family then, whos kids are now rich/well settled), left long back but had put a lock on the room and sometimes used to sublet. My family ignored it all.
        However, around 8 years back, they filed a case on us to repair the house. Our lawyer filed an eviction case back.
        In the meanwhile , past few years they have totally renovated and even extended the room. They keep some laborers to stay in that big room now.
        Case is js dragging on. We changed lawyers many times. They withdrew the house repair case. Our eviction case is still on.
        We are fed up and don’t have money to keep paying a lawyer.
        They once even brought a builder to show that property. They im assuming think they will get a flat. Someone told us they actually want to buy the plot. Land is scarce is this area. They have even searched and brought back an old tenant of another room to trouble us.
        House is in a dilapidated state except for the part they have renovated. Rest of the house has been empty for several years.

        They are rich. Well connected with the authorities. And could be dangerous. They have some power.

        We don’t want to sell our plot.
        The plot is irregularly shaped so it’s difficult to even construct on it without breaking the existing house.

        We could probably pay them upto 20lakhs . But I dont no if they will
        Accept nor we don’t know how to approach them.
        They are quite fierce, one of their daughter in particular. It may sound funny. But she has already filed fake molestation case against our male family member. She’s a terror. Can’t even interact with her.

        In court right now , they are in the witness box. (I don’t follow it closely , being handled by father).
        Our cross examination is over. And theirs is going on. Something called defence evidence.

        Please experienced lawyers.
        How much further would the court matter proceed. Like wat stages are left?

        Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
        Sorry for the long post. Stressful to even type. Past years have been very tensed and stressful coz of all the drama they have done.
        No peace in the house because of it.

            Lawyer. Possession is 9/10s of ownership. As long as your tenant is putting a lock and preventing your entry into the house/room, the tenant is in possession. The tenant has a right of adverse possession if they have been in continuous possession of the room/house for 12 years. Good luck on your eviction suit
