March 25, 2025 at 12:06 pmI’m a girl, living in a small city. And recently my father passed away. But this post isn’t abouthim. After his death we went a holy place for the rituals. And We weren’t at home for 4 days, when we came back I started having breathing issues and food poisoning. I didn’t knew the cause and brushed it off. But 2 days ago I discovered that very strong kerosene smell was coming in our bathroom, and me and my mom discovered it was from the water. So to confirm I checked our well. And we have covered it with barrages preventing anything falling into it. But guess whattt there was shit ton of garbage in there plastic bottles, medicine, food, a jute bag, plates, coconuts it was SHIT. And a fucking strong kerosene smell like VERY STRONG. We knew a 100 percent that it was neighbour. So we got it cleaned first and called the police. They didn’t help much and we wrote the application form and all that. But no investigation or even a slight call has been received by us regarding this. Iam thinking the police were bribed, and also our neighbours aren’t supporting us regarding this. Everyone on our side is backing up. I’m scared cuz it’s just me and my mom in this. What the hell should I do??? -

March 25, 2025 at 12:20 pmWhat are they going to achieve by poisoning you? That is the first question I would ask and will then proceed to sell the house and move on.-

March 25, 2025 at 12:23 pmWell we always had a conflict between us, And even in the past they’ve done a lot shit things. They dump their garbage in our backyard and when I inform the panchayat he bribes them. About two years ago we had a large conflict on this.-

March 25, 2025 at 12:38 pmFair. But we had nothing against anybody except that neighbour. And also we were grieving. So according to me anybody else couldn’t really do that.and also we have good high compounds so the only only access to my house without our knowing, Is by the backyard where his house is present.-

March 25, 2025 at 12:47 pmWe did do the rituals, but it after we came back from the holy place. And during that time there were a lot of people and our relatives had also come so I don’t think someone would do that when so many people are present. And I also got food poisoned the same day I came back because I drank the water.-

March 25, 2025 at 12:40 pmGet a CCTV setup if you can, itβs worth it for peace of mind and evidence. Also, think about adopting an indie dog instead of a fancy breed. Theyβre tough, smart, and super protective once they bond with you. Having a dog around can be a huge deterrent.Since the police arenβt helping, keep records of everything, photos, videos, anything suspicious. If it escalates, youβll have proof. And if the local cops are compromised, try reaching out to higher authorities.

March 25, 2025 at 1:37 pmI don’t have any proofs indicating that THEY have done it, but I am sure that they did I have evidence of past issues with them but not this. They have a CCTV in their home directed at our well, but since the police didn’t come to investigate I don’t think I will ever get the footage -

March 25, 2025 at 1:37 pmThis may not be deliberate poisoning, but contaminating a ground water source with kerosene and waste is still a serious environmental and health hazard. Given the seriousness of the situation, your first priority should be to gather concrete evidence to support your case. Take clear photographs and videos of the contaminated well, the garbage, and any traces of kerosene in the water. If possible, get a water sample tested at a government lab to confirm contamination.Since the local police have failed to act, file a written complaint with the SP / DCP, detailing the incident along with supporting evidence. If the police continue ignoring you, take it to court by filing a private complaint before the Magistrate, requesting an order for the police to investigate. Consider reporting the issue to State Pollution Control Board as contaminating water sources is a punishable offence. Also, consider reaching out to local media or NGOs or post on social mediaβpublic pressure can force authorities to act.
For your safety, you can install CCTV cameras to monitor any suspicious activity. In the meantime, use alternative sources for water for drinking & household purposes.

March 25, 2025 at 1:40 pmKerosene smell could be because they poured it in to curb the mosquitoes that would be breeding there due to all dirty and stagnant water⦠i think you should just ask about it or get it cleaned.-
LLakshmimaster9
OP
March 25, 2025 at 1:44 pmWe did get it cleaned. And if you see the water there’s a kind of thin layer of oil in the well which doesn’t really mix with the water.-

March 25, 2025 at 2:42 pmOil will never mix with water, and if it is as dirty as you say, then potentially it would be for mosquitoesβ¦ You can check it yourselfβ¦-

March 25, 2025 at 3:07 pmWhy would someone pour kerosene into the drinking water to curb mosquitoes without our consent? Knowing we will drink it. Does it make any sense? No. It was intentional .

March 26, 2025 at 4:49 amThe police didn’t come because you have no proof. You can’t just randomly file a case against someone without some reason or justification.First, answer these questions –
1. How do you store your water? Tank? Well?
2. How easy is it to access the storage area from the outside?
3. Is there any proof that your neighbour is/was in conflict with you? Will your other neighbours back the claim?
4. Any past incident where they have tried damaging your property?
From a neutral perspective, do you have any reasonable proof or testimony that your neighbour could’ve, and would’ve done this? Could it be done by random bystanders or pedestrians?
I don’t see a case here. Better to secure your water supply (with proper housing like a tank) and if that can’t be done then install a cctv camera. It’s not very expensive. Will be far cheaper than the lawyer fees for the court case.

OP
March 27, 2025 at 9:28 am1. We have a well, but we don’t use the water directly it gets stored in tank ( hence the poisoned water didn’t effect much because getting a little filtered)
2. It’s not easy to have access, we have cages on top of our well but we didn’t lock it then. It could be opened only if you apply some good force (it is rusted) You can have access to our tank of you have trespassed. Which isn’t that easy for my home.
3.Yes I have proof of the past conflict, but my other neighbours won’t support me cause first of all, they are kinda scared of cases and all. And second is that the person I’m doubting has a higher stand in heiarchy than us.
4.Yes, They have firstly invaded our property multiple times. They have a coconut tree that totally leans on top of my home and even got the panchayat involved with it, but he bribes them. That tree leaning caused property damage, and at one time a short circuit. The tree wasn’t really a problem if he agreed to negotiate and cut it off, we offered him money to take it down but he refused.
Then he would taunt us when ever he was at home, like cursing for no reason.
