March 3, 2025 at 10:18 pmI have personal home wifi connection that is password protected.
Recently police approached and said that it was used to access instagram of someone who is under investigation in Indian posco act.
My wifi password was compromised most probably through some relatives to whom I have granted access. ( This one is surprising i don’t know the guy directly or indirectly )
For now police has not taken any action against me. They have just said I might have to come to station for some process in near future and left.
What should I do next?

March 4, 2025 at 4:28 amNo point in hiding SSID after the fact ! In any case it does not make any difference. Coming to the police, if they are just seeking/gathering info, you should have no issues. If they want to be βextractβ something πfrom you, you will know based on what they ask/demand from you. They may try to scare you if they want to βextractβ something.

March 4, 2025 at 5:48 pmI would recommend not getting a wifi router from the ISP. Opt for a man only option, like for OFC connections get an ONU instead of an ONT. Get a separate WiFi router, a good one, and connect to the ONU via LAN. If the ISP doesn’t allow this, you can disable the WiFi on the router they provide and do the same.

March 4, 2025 at 12:00 amYou must visit the police station for the statement. It is a part of their investigation. Dont worry about it.
Take a local support rather than taking an advocate with you. Advocate charge you almost 5-10k for this simple visit.
At least visit the police station with your father or some middle-aged person who can speak well with police
Don’t be afraid when you are clean.-

2. If your IP was used, you just have to surrender your router, rest police will take care of.
3. Get a new router.
4. Police can ask your service provider for the same things and those people have data of every website you visit.
5. Ask the police for an official notice before visiting the police station.-

March 5, 2025 at 10:57 amWhat you say is fact however, an IP will be assigned to a specific user at a specific time, if that was OP when this happened, this is surely legit.Ask for official notice, submit that your router may be compromised and you never shared credentials. Submit if they ask for hardware and ask for new router from the ISP. There should be no action beyond this on you.
The moment they ask you come too many times than usual, get a lawyer.

March 5, 2025 at 11:25 amWell it makes sense..they must have known I am not the direct accused … So getting a warrant for asking a few questions is too much unnecessary trouble.
So they must have decided to talk first. If I had denied cooperation then they might have walked down on the warrant path.

March 5, 2025 at 7:15 amEither you’re not being truthful, or the police are trying to mislead you. The situation with Posco cases is very serious.Itβs possible that the accused linked his phone to your Wi-Fi. When the police tracked his device, they may have discovered its connection to your network, prompting them to visit your residence or neighborhood in search of him.
If the accused is using an older Android phone and your Wi-Fi router is also outdated, he might have utilized an app like WPA WPS Tester to connect to your Wi-Fi without permission.
The police cannot seize your Wi-Fi router or require you to visit the station just because of a Wi-Fi vulnerability. Nowadays, cybercriminals can easily obtain passwords through their internet service providers or by using apps like WPA WPS Tester.
Whatβs the worst that could happen? If the police find evidence that the accused was hiding in your home or building and that you were aiding him, they could summon you to the station for questioning, confiscate your Wi-Fi router, or even take your laptop and phone.
