I don’t know how much longer I can take this. My home is unbearable. My parents are constantly verbally abusive, and my sister always snitches on me instead of supporting me. I have no relatives who care, no one to turn to. Two years ago, I lost my brother, and ever since, I’ve felt trapped like I don’t belong anywhere. The environment in my house is so toxic that I feel like I’m losing myself every day.

I want to leave, but I don’t know how. I’m 18, so legally an adult, but I don’t have financial independence. I need to know:

        1. **Can I legally move out without my parents stopping me?**
        2. **Is there any legal way to demand financial support from my parents?**
        3. **If I rent a place, what legal formalities should I be aware of?**
        4. **Are there any government schemes or financial support options that could help me sustain myself?**

I feel suffocated and desperate to get out of here. I don’t want to stay in this house any longer, but I need guidance on how to do it legally and safely. Please help me.

**Can I legally move out without my parents stopping me?**

Yes, you can. Your parents can’t stop you if you are over 18.

**Is there any legal way to demand financial support from my parents?**

If you are female & Unmarried, you can ask for food clothing & Shelter from your parents. But that doesn’t mean some pocket money to live independently. If you are Male then parents have no responsibility other than any share in ancestral property if they have and if it is being divided.

**If I rent a place, what legal formalities should I be aware of?**

Just Identity papers like Aadhar, Voter ID, DL, PAN, 10th Marks, Passport etc. Deposit money is required.

**Are there any government schemes or financial support options that could help me sustain myself?**

Yes many like free rice, MNRega if in rural areas, some state-specific schemes like unemployment benefits, Female benefits like Ladli behen, subsidised electricity, LPG etc

My advice is don’t cut off your parents right now. Get a college education and a job and then move out.

Are you a lawyer or even someone who has had exposure to the justice system?

                  Not a lawyer

                  1. Yes you can move out of your home and live anywhere
                  2. Not sure about any legal obligation in which you can demand financial support while staying away from your parents
                  3. You only need you aadhar and money to rent a place
                  4. You can crack top exams and get free scholarship for your education. Else, you can check for freebies schemes.

Don’t even think of moving out till you start earning enough to support yourself independently in the meantime study hard try to find and do odd jobs to become street smart and also earn some pocket money

If you leave without consent, legally you are free to leave since you are an adult but you can not legally force them to pay once you leave since you are 18. Try any govt college which provides a cheap hostel.
You will have property right in ancestral property not in acquired by your parents by their own earning.

Get a part time job while you continue to live there. Find means of financial independence first.

They owe you nothing after you’ve turned 16 as per prevailing law.

1 ) Yes, you definitely can move out. No one can stop you from doing that.
                            2) Your parents don’t owe you any financial support.

3 ) If you have money then everything else can be managed easily.

                            4) No, the Government doesn’t have direct programs which support you financially. But the Government do run programs which can provide you with daily works with good wgea which can help you sustain. Your best bet would be working in the hospitality industry such as Hotels, Restaurants etc.
