February 13, 2025 at 8:48 pmI recently ordered a paneer dish from very big and well known restaurant chain in Mumbai. Did the iodine test to confirm if the paneer was real or the fake one. It turned out to be fake.Im so frustrated at this point. Almost every basic aspect of our society from food, water, air is compromising our health and we should be demanding better quality of life hence i want to start take action against such restaurants.
Can someone let me know what legal action i can take against the restaurant chain for selling fake paneer despite mentioning paneer on their menu.

February 13, 2025 at 9:05 pmIt is not considered a Fake Paneer as per FSSAI.Officially there are two versions of Paneer. One is made from dairy and another is from palm oil.
So you cannot take legal action. As Palm Oil Paneer is legal.

You can contact food safety officials locally or raise a complaint on FSSAI grievance portal. Usually food safety inspections coupled can with media coverage can be very effective in these cases, as long as they are not on restraunts’ payroll.-

February 14, 2025 at 6:16 amThe bigger question is, is it edible/safe to consume? If it’s not actually paneer or an alternative form of it (even by whatever acceptable standards) then it shouldn’t be marketed and sold as an act of deception.-

Not true most of the case, they have highly trained chef, who could cook a 10/10 dish with month old ingredients.Profits are Everything.

February 13, 2025 at 9:43 pmFood adulteration concerns health and public safety, among other issues. Bring your complaint to local government, health department and the Food Safety department of the Central Government. You can file an FIR against the party concerned. You will need to submit details of the incident and evidence you have collected. -

February 14, 2025 at 12:11 am99.99 % paneer i tested from sweet shops/restaurants in my city failed the iodine test. Famous dairy brands packaged paneer were the only ones not adulterated.Btw the iodine test is for starch adulteration which i’ll say is pretty harmless at this point considering there’s a whole thriving industry of fake paneer made from all sorts of chemicals, oils etc. not requiring any milk at all in some cases.
Anyways i started getting milk directly from the dairy farmers and making paneer myself which is pretty simple. Day and night difference in taste btw.

February 14, 2025 at 2:59 amThere is absolutely nothing you can do. Suppose you file a case, that’s just one restaurant with 500 Rupees fine. Laws already exist, there is enforcement and corruption issue. Instead, here is a better solution :-1. Go to same restaurant for years and build a connect. They won’t cheat. Don’t go to high end restaurants for anything except drinks and potato wedges.
2 . Cook at home. You can hire a cook to make you a grand meal for a day.
Same goes for Pollution. To solve that you need to get a mask, you can’t hope for any social action.
In India, there won’t be a collective moment or any justice. It’s not that people are bad, it’s just that they are tired and have no real powers. Indians are good people to be honest.

February 16, 2025 at 4:11 amIs the iodine test accurate? I honestly believe it isnโt. Try this. Buy a branded paneer from Amul or muralya and do the idonite test on a piece. Then fry it in oil and cook it in a curry with cashews and corn starch. Then do the iodine test on cooked paneer. It will turn blue. -
