Information required regarding lawsuit and travel restrictions

My friend said he has a lawsuit back in India and he might have to go there for a month to get things sorted. When I asked him what this lawsuit was, he said it was some personal stuff. He didn’t go for the details.

Lawyers of the sub, please enlighten me: What sort of cases requires him to go back to India for hearing and lets him fly out of the country? I don’t understand this.

Can be divorce, partition suit, civil suit, list is endless.

We were concerned about whether it was a criminal case; his dad is in the police force (FYI).
