March 7, 2025 at 5:27 amMy girlfriend’s mother strongly dislikes me because of my religion and has threatened to file police complaints and legal cases against me if I continue talking to her. Both my girlfriend and I want to get married and are determined to find a way to do so in the upcoming year. However, I am concerned about whether she can actually file a case against me just for talking to her.
Legally speaking, simply talking to another person—especially with mutual consent—is not a crime. The Constitution of India guarantees my Right to Freedom of Speech and Expression (Article 19(1)(a)) and Right to Personal Liberty (Article 21). Unless my conversation involves threats, harassment, coercion, or any illegal activity, no police complaint should hold legal merit.
So my question is that can the mother do anything legally to harm me?
