Is adding wife’s name in passport mandatory for renewal of passport?

Dear all
Can anybody advise if it is mandatory to add your wife’s name for renewing passport?
Me and my wife are not living together and i need to get my passport renewed.
Kindly advise.

It will help in getting your kids passport. It is mandatory to have either of the parents passport to have spouse name when applying for kids passport. Other than this, I don’t know any mandatory rules to hinder passport renewal.

Not living together means what? You live in different cities for work or are separated?

If first case, I recommend getting her added. Will be very helpful for kid’s passport in future.

If second case, no you don’t need to add her name to passport.

Yes, i just renewed my passport and mentioned in the application I’m now married’, and they asked me to bring the marriage certificate without which they wouldn’t process it , so i guess if you mention change in marital status you need to get documents

No , they give a format on a form that works too , you need to sign it along with your partner and affix a family photo

Select marital status as separated then you won’t be asked to include your spouse’s name.

If not added before they will not ask anything if added then headace in geting it removed

When you say separated they will ask legal document for the separation

There is a term called judicial sepeation which is ordered by court

That is divorcee. No documents are asked even if you mention as divorced and btw by saying you are single even though you are married you are hiding the information. For separation nothing is required.

We are separated but not legally. 
Just that we aren’t living together decided mutually.

So you mean to say if i select separated in the drop down menu i do not have to present any proof for the same?
