April 23, 2025 at 1:01 pmFor context: my cousin sister did a very stupid thing but spreading false rumours about a friend of mine . Please try not to be mean to me and this situation, I know what she did was wrong. She is small but she turned 18just a week ago. My friend “B” works in a hotel . Sister sent out messages to a bunch of her friends and colleagues saying that , she has slept with someone’s husband who regularly stays at her hotel …but mentioned no indication that she was doing anything at the said hotel . And this has caused her some problems at her workplace, nothing major , just some questioning.
So she was forced to file a complaint in cyber security. Now I am not sure how to be prepared for this . I heard such cases are low on the priority of cybersecurity people. But please reassure me what are the chances of this getting solved , if she had used a fake account. Later in the day I forced my sister to sent out an apology to all of whom she has messaged saying that she got the person confused and it was not my friend who did that and asked them to extend her apologies to her . She did this from various accounts. All of which have been deleted or in line for deletion .
Should we be prepared with a lawyer?
Would the police take this seriously?
How long before we know any updates for this ?Sincerely thank you in advance.

April 23, 2025 at 1:27 pmIANALNot being mean, but she’s 18 – she’s definitely not “small”. She’s an adult. Stop coddling her and trying to justify her actions through her age.
What she indulged in is character assassination, with complete malicious intent.
This is classic cyber-bullying. This is NOT gossip.
She pinged colleagues, which could’ve resulted in job loss. She could’ve ended the marriage of said guest.
Priorities for the cyber crime department are NOT an umbrella term. It depends on which officer is assigned the case, and the other case at hand. And the persistence of the victim.
I am sure professional lawyers will have more to say here with any anticipatory measures for if/when she’s caught. So wait for them.

April 23, 2025 at 1:40 pmThanks , her parents have already taken into their hands for disciplining her . The parents want does Not wish to help her in this situation. I think she is getting what she deserves. But I can’t ignore her as she is my sister.

April 23, 2025 at 3:34 pmWhy has your cousin sister did that..Why has she spread rumours about your friend.
Are you both involved in this..
What she did is not a minor thing..
It’s a character assassination and can’t be excused just like that…
Things done with a malicious intent is not a passing by thing.
Also the cyber crime department is not only for cyber bullying cases, it’s also for cases like this.
Please consult a lawyer and pursue the case further,so that you can prepare your safe grounds ahead.

April 23, 2025 at 4:36 pmOh that’s another story. This my friend actually slept with my cousin’s boyfriend. The boyfriend was a lying cheating asshole so he lied to B . But even after B found out he was dating my cousin sister she did it-

April 23, 2025 at 4:40 pmHmmm..so it was revenge..Anyway that’s your personal matter so I won’t enter into that side but regarding this it can get very serious if B decides to pursue it seriously so please consult a good lawyer..
Sending apologies from an anonymous account doesn’t hold any good in this case.
Please don’t do any more childish acts and get legal counselling.

April 23, 2025 at 4:44 pmI mean , the apologies went from the same account this rumour was spread. Also what do you mean by if B decides to pursue it seriously? She has already filed a complaint in the police station. They told her that they will call her once they have something

April 23, 2025 at 4:48 pmIt means that if B really pursues the case with the police, visit them regularly, taking updates till they don’t identify the culprit..Once the culprit is identified after that how things will proceed will be on B and the police..,
Also doesn’t matter about the apologies..Her image is already ruined in front of the office.. Sleeping with someone’s husband is a serious accusation.
What if the other men come to know that such accusations are made and he too file a case of defamation.
You can’t slut shame someone like that..
Anyway once again I would say don’t do anything further till you get legal help.
The lawyer will guide you how to go about it.

April 23, 2025 at 4:51 pmI can understand how your cousin must be feeling now as ultimately she is a young girl who has done something stupid without thinking about the consequences..I really hope she comes out of this without any problem.
Atleast parents should stand by her in this situation..
If they don’t,who will..
I am a mother to a 16 year old girl and I feel sad that your cousin is not getting any support from her parents…
Please don’t worry, things will be alright.

April 23, 2025 at 6:23 pmWe all make mistakes. Some times small, sometimes big but just make sure never do something which might land you any legal tangles..Please ask her parents to support her..
You guys are too young to handle this on your own…
Lawyers shouldn’t befool you as the world is full of opportunists.Plus you have to pay legal fees too..
Talk to them patiently and beg them to support her..
I hope these parents stand by their child.
