Hi, 19M here, will probably go to college this year. I’m willing to legally change my surname, I really hate my current one, very weird and almost everytime misspelt by everyone. However, I’ve read that changing your name in your official documents (like 10th and 12th marksheet and my category certificates) is a very tiring and long process. Is it really? How much time would it ideally take

Yes, actually, it rhymes with “condom” to an extent and a very unusual spelling and I’ve had my entire school life getting bullied due to that.

Apart from 10th and 12th certificates, is everything else easy to change? Like adhar, pan cards, or category certificates

It will all take some time and effort. But if you’re determined, go ahead. But do know that you should never be ashamed of a name. It’s just a name. I know a guy with a cuss word for surname and he does not let it bother him in anyway even though people make fun of him behind his back.

Whenever you introduce your name, first laugh.

“What’s in the name…?”

Life is too short for such problems, so laugh before you introduce and laugh along with the people when they hear for the first time and even afterwards.

Changing the name procedure is very hectic.
One day you will create a brand with your surname and it will help attract the customers.

If you really want a change, the effort will be worth it even if it will take time and effort.

You do not need to change the name on your marksmanship if you have the name change order.

There are plenty of women who change their names after marriage. In my case every one of my education certificates has my name differently – 10, 12, degree, masters + as i have a double barrel surname which gets treated differently in each case.
