So i work in a manufacturing company in a management role. When i joined this company, the joining letter stated that the work days are mon to fri with hours from 8am to 6pm with 30 min lunch break in between. This makes it 10 hours a day and 50 hours a week. But the same offer letter states that the work hours are 48 hours a week. We don’t have anything like a weekly 2 hour permission allowance.

Also the labours here work from 7am to 4pm from mon to sat which makes it 54 hours a week. I read somewhere that the legal restrictions for work hours are 48 hours a week including lunch hours.

Am i legally wrong or is my company crossing the hour limits or is there any loophole being utilised here?

Labor laws state you have to give overtime pay for the extra hours and state to state there is requirement of tea and snacks or dinner depending on the amount of overtime.

Everything i mentioned here is excluding overtime. In that case, are we under the legal limits here?

Yes. That is straight up illegal with penalty being payment in arrears with interest to staff, penalty to government and potential jailtime of upto 2 years for repeat offenders.

cant be more than 8hr. some include lunch, snacks too.. in our mfg company, we used to work 7 to 4:30.. 2 tea breaks of 15 mins each and 1hr lunch…. this was 5 days a week.. some follows the same with 6 days too. govt is ok for 6 days too.. talk to management about this.. they must be paying to labour officer everytime he visits..
