…one of the two pasts owners that is supposedly unhinged.

Here’s the story: My mother purchased a home that one of our neighbors was selling. The owners on paper were the two estranged sisters of the family (dead parents), one of which stays far away, let’s call her the Away Sister.

Since she was away she’d handed over power of attorney to the other sister, let’s call her Main Sister.

During the sale of the house my mom had called Away Sister to confirm that she was aware of the sale and she said she is, spoke on video call too. And the sale happened.

It’s been 2yrs since and now the away sister says she needs copy of the paperwork. My mom was like ok but called the Main Sister to let her know about this conversation and the Main Sister said do not send it to her, she’s been trying to scam me out of all my properties etc etc bunch of drama. Since then my mother has been ignoring Away Sister’s calls,

Today Away Sister sent one of her friends (a very nice lady) to our house and called her so she could talk to us. Away Sister again said as one of the two previous owners I have the right to have a copy and you guys are unnecessarily getting involved in our family matters. To which my mom said me not responding is us not getting involved to which she said you have no right to deny me a copy.

Is that true? What should we do here?

The away sister can petition the Sub registrar office and get a certified copy of the sale agreement. I hope you did a legal DD before buying the property. Did they sisters have succession or legal heir certificate or probate of a will through which the property was transferred to them? If yes, then you are safe. If not, then the title of the property is defective.

Please share the copy with sway sister, she has the right as a previous owner. How she uses it in the family feud is not your concern. Don’t get tangled in the wrong fights. If the main sister gets angry let her. Legally away sister has the right.

She has a right, but she doesnt have a right to get it from you. She can get it from registerar.

Nope, as a owner she has the right to get a copy from the buyer.
