March 10, 2025 at 9:23 amMy husband put money into his bank account for court fees. He never followed through with the court case. We trusted him thinking he was an advocate. It took years. He kept asking for more and more money. The last contact he had with us was in November 2024. He ignores our calls etc. We have given up. It’s a very difficult situation. We need to find an honest lawyer/advocate who can do our case. This is the second time having terrible experience with Mumbai advocates.

March 10, 2025 at 9:17 amAdv. Raju R. Barai is a corrupt lawyer who took 3lakhs plus money from me with fake promises for case that was never filled. He would have done to many and he need to stop. Indian legal system is joke and am not sure state bar council will either catch him or deregister him?
Whats the point. A thief is always a thief.-

March 10, 2025 at 10:04 amWhether you can make out a case against him would depend on what he did. Bar Council of Maharashtra would only take action against him for professional misconduct. Losing a case or handling it badly (missing few hearings or not arguing properly) would not mean he is liable for professional misconduct. But if you think he has committed fraud on you, then you should file the complaint to the Bar Council and to the Police.

March 10, 2025 at 10:25 amFor us – it is the time and effort to put into such an process for it to go into a bureaucratic black hole that Adv. Raju Barai will just bribe himself out of. The same feeling goes for the police. Do you know anyone who has been through this process? Was there any true/honest/lawful outcome?-

March 10, 2025 at 10:49 amI donβt know anyone personally but people file complaints against advocates frequently. Complaints against advocates are filed under Section 35 of the advocates act.If you think the advocate has stolen your money or misappropriated it, then you can file a police complaint too.

March 10, 2025 at 10:51 amWorld advise you to keep your posts here anonymous.
Complaints to the Bar Council are taken on record and though the proceedings may be lengthy you are likely to get a major chunk of your money back.
As for selecting good lawyers, check with family or friends for acquaintances/batchmates (preferred).
Hope things turn out better for you.-
