So, my friend is a writer and has quite a fanbase (international).

He posted on Patreon, but his account got banned.

He did not write anything illegal or prohibited, but still.

Now, his PayPal is banned from Patreon.

He wants to use my PayPal to receive the money, and want me to transfer it to his bank through UPI.

PayPal uses Pan Card for account verification.

I don’t know if it will be seen as my income.

He and I are both ignorant about taxes, so we don’t know if there is any problem. He is ready to give me the money for taxes in case there’s a need.

The only thing I wanted to ask if there is anything illegal with it?

Like any money laundering stuff or something?

        Please guide me.

        Thank You!!

Any amount coming into your Patreon account (an account created in your name) will be looked at as your income.

Tell your friend to find another platform like Patreon (nas(dot)io is an alternative) to create a new community like the one he created on Patreon earlier.

Like, if I pretend it to be my income and pay the taxes and give the after tax amount to my friend. Will it work?

Example: You recieve เคฐ100. You are liable to pay เคฐ20 tax on it. You’re left with เคฐ80. You transfer เคฐ80 to your friend….

Guess what, เคฐ80 is income for your friend. They will now have to pay tax on เคฐ80

Technically it’s NOT double taxation. How will the government know that you’re collecting money on behalf of your friend?

They will treat transfer of money from your account to his account as his income.

                              His income will get taxed.

The most logical thing for him is to find another platform like Patreon.

                                  Are you sure about this?

Can it not be a friend to friend transfer?

Like parents do it as well

The only legitimate transfers that are allowed tax-free are between spouses, parents-children, and siblings.
