I reside in one of the Union Territories. The local municipality has stopped the process of name corrections on birth certificates. The only explanation provided is that the administrator of U.T. ordered this suspension due to past fraud cases. When I inquired further, officials stated that an investigation is going on and advised me to contact the U.T. administrator directly for more information.

This process has been on hold for 2+ years, preventing even minor name corrections. I need to update my birth certificate urgently to apply for citizenship in another country. However, my father changed his name while I was abroad, and I must reflect this change in my birth certificate for my application.

If I change my name (i.e. my father’s name in my full name) through the national gazette, can I bypass the birth certificate name correction process? Are there any other possible solutions? I would greatly appreciate any guidance. Thank you. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

1 sneaky way is to make a fresh birth certificate with correct details. This involves claiming that you(your parent’s) never registred your birth anywhwere in India (it’s actually a lie) but claim that and with some bribe you get a new Birth Cert.

I don’t think correcting the birth certificate is the legally correct thing to do here. It is supposed to be issued when you were born and to have your dad’s name at that time. You can give a gusset publication to change your name.
