Title: Is it acceptable for teammates to call directly on Teams without a message first?
Hey Reddit,
Iโm working at a big MNC, and something has been bothering me for a while. In my team, most of the people directly call on Microsoft Teams without dropping a message first to ask if Iโm available or free to talk.
Itโs not always urgent, and sometimes Iโm either already in a meeting, focused on deep work, or even away from my laptop.
I feel like this is a bit intrusive and not entirely professional, especially when there’s no heads-up. In my previous teams, it was always the norm to message first and ask, โHey, got 5 mins for a quick call?โ
Am I overthinking this? Is direct calling becoming normal in IT work culture? Or should I raise this issue politely within the team?
Would love to hear your thoughts and how you handle it in your workplaces.
