Hey Reddit,
I’m working at a big MNC, and something has been bothering me for a while. In my team, most of the people directly call on Microsoft Teams without dropping a message first to ask if I’m available or free to talk.
It’s not always urgent, and sometimes I’m either already in a meeting, focused on deep work, or even away from my laptop.
I feel like this is a bit intrusive and not entirely professional, especially when there’s no heads-up. In my previous teams, it was always the norm to message first and ask, “Hey, got 5 mins for a quick call?”
Am I overthinking this? Is direct calling becoming normal in IT work culture? Or should I raise this issue politely within the team?
Would love to hear your thoughts and how you handle it in your workplaces.
