May 4, 2025 at 6:09 pmHey everyone,Idk if this is the right space to ask this, but here goes โ Iโve just wrapped up my 5-year integrated law course from a top private law university in India (not an NLU, but among the better-known private law schools). Iโve done a fair number of internships โ ranging from established firms to smaller but focused practices โ and now that law school is done, Iโm considering going abroad for an LLM.
I come from a financially sound background, so funding the course isnโt a major issue. However, Iโm a first-generation lawyer, so Iโm trying to figure things out without much internal guidance.
The countries Iโm looking at for my LLM are Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore. Singapore seems very expensive comparatively, so itโs a bit uncertain at this stage. My primary area of interest is international business or commercial law, but Iโm also trying to carve out a niche in **sports law**, which I know is quite specialised.
The main idea is:
* Should I go for an LLM abroad right after graduation, especially coming from a non-NLU but decent private background?
* Are there universities abroad offering strong or emerging programs in sports law?
* Iโm also looking at this long-term โ **I donโt plan to come back to India if I manage to find a stable footing wherever I go.**
* How do these countries compare in terms of post-LLM work opportunities, especially for someone in my position?Any advice, insights, or even leads on good universities or scholarships would be super appreciated.

May 4, 2025 at 6:19 pmYou don’t need to do LLM. You will get decent if you completed your course from SLSP or equivalent. Also, wrong sub. Post this on r/NLUs

May 4, 2025 at 9:17 pm1. Don’t bother doing an LLM if you are going to practice law.2. If you have decided to get an LLM either way, plenty of law schools within India. Please just pick a state, pick a college. Go for it.
3. Keep in mind that the student loans/financial burden you’ll have to go through for a 1 year LLM is just not worth it, use that money to start your own office after 2-3 years of practice or just invest it in real-estate or something else.

May 5, 2025 at 12:47 pmThanks, this is a bit of a different perspective from what Iโve mostly heard, but I appreciate it. Iโm not really looking to practice anyway, more interested in going the in-house counsel route
