Laid off this morning. Company has denied severance.

Hey redditors, looking to help a couple of friends who got laid off and the startup has denied severance. The offer letter doesn’t mention about this policy. They have been given a 30 day notice.
Are they still entitled to severance?
Can someone help us form a constructive note to raise it with the HR?

Sorry to hear about your friends’ situation. Severance is not a legal requirement. Just a goodwill gesture.
