Landlady won’t return deposit

I had to leave the premises on short notice. I didn’t serve the “one month” notice , but the houseowner found another tenant. Requested her to return the deposit since I don’t have a job and had to move back to hometown for an emergency. She rejected my request and disconnected the call while I was speaking. The broker who charged me the brokerage wouldn’t even mediate , he said it’s between me and the house owner. Kindly advise.

I don’t see any reason to return your deposit. Those are terms of tenancy.

People here are hellbent on Landlord bad mentality.

All the land lady (henceforth landy) owes you, is politeness. She shouldn’t have disconnected the call without explaining to you why she’s not liable to return the security deposit. That’s a bit rude on her part.

So, you’ve chosen to vacate without serving the required notice, yet seem rather reluctant to accept responsibility for that oversight.

And now, you appear online with a rather convenient tale — no job and a sudden emergency back home. Curious, indeed.
