Landlord asking everyone for 500 rs for police verification?

I live in an RK in gurgaon and today all the tenants were given forms to fill for police verification (mainly details of local reference, where you are working, govt id). After filling it out, they said 500 rs is required to submit this at the police station? Is this actually true? Is there like a fee for submitting this? We don’t even have a rent agreement here?

500rs is official PVC charges atleast here in Bengaluru, any bribe is on top of that, if with just 500 u r getting ur PVC it’s good, but ask for certificate, no certificate means it’s just bribe

PVC is not mandatory in Bengaluru. If landlord requires it then fine, but not required as per local law.

yes it’s not mandatory but in our society 1 guy caught for doing 2cr phishing fraud, we have made mandatory after that

Yes he said that he’ll give back the paper to me after the police stamp it after verification…just didn’t know that I would need to pay for that..but I checked with all the tenants and everyone is paying so what can I do

Care to explain why is that a problem? I mean apart from he can kick them out anytime+they can also leave anytime without giving notice or unable to claim HRA.

Police verification application costs ₹125 in Maharashtra and is completely online…

It takes around 400rs to verify but you can also ask the police man whether the landlord is doing verification or not

It’s a bribe, the cops will point out flaws in your verification and give you a runaround, happened with me here in Gurgaon as well. Pay it and move on or if you’re nitty gritty, ask them if you can call the numbers provided on the station of their higher ups what the junior officer is talking about.

I fucking laughed when the cop told me, I have to get my NOC signed from Delhi, then only he can sign this in Gurgaon to verify whether I am a legal citizen, like yeah dumbass, the whole point of me coming to you is so that you can verify me identity. Showed him 500, he told me to put it under a photo his kids like he’s a saint.
