February 12, 2025 at 9:24 amMy family owned around 15 acres of land in Tamilnadu until **2021**, but upon recent verification, we discovered that the land is now **registered under a large company’s name since 2022**. Shockingly, this isnโt just our land, **over 500 acres from our village and nearby villages** have been similarly transferred to this companyโs ownership. The companyโs name appears on the land records, and below it, there is a mention of the **Supreme Court**, which seems to indicate that the court has either accepted or processed the transfer. We never sold or transferred our land, and no one in the village was informed about this.
We never **sold, transferred, or gave consent** for this change in ownership. There was no notification, and we are unsure **how the company managed to get the land title changed in official records**.
Since this is a big company, there is a possibility that officials were influenced in some way, making it even harder for us to fight back. Additionally, there is no unity among the villagers, which makes taking collective legal action more difficult.
So, how to deal with this? We have already talked to a lawyer but your advice would help.

February 12, 2025 at 9:35 amIf you have the original papers then you can file a petition in district court and then move upwards. Try to bribe local law enforcement better so that the company would face mountain of problems during construction phase.-

February 12, 2025 at 8:09 pmBecause there is no legal recourse in most cases in india. It’s rotten to the core. Even lawyers only side with who pays more money. Why should you be straight as an arrow then?-

February 13, 2025 at 2:05 amIn many places around the world the local enforcement of that place is notorious for taking money. So if everything is rotten why not use the rot to our advantage right?

February 12, 2025 at 9:57 amHi..Either it had been acquired by notification in the gazette or public through newspapers ads. I will suggest you first file a RTI query and ask all the queries and copies of decisions basis which the land was transferred. Prepare to pay the cost of photocopying the full document trail . Once you receive this reply consult a lawyer to file a writ in Madras HC if you want to.-

February 13, 2025 at 12:54 pmPossible, but. You can hope for so if your whole village unitedly come down heavy on the illegalities done by corrupt officials in the govt offices. Try to get information about the officials who took part in the corruption, like names and homeplaces. Collect copies of official records of the whole thing. Then work on it unitedly with one or two lawyers.

February 12, 2025 at 1:01 pmYou seem to imply that the supreme court has given a go ahead if so or even if that is not the case you can directly approach the supreme court citing misuse of the courts orders/precedent to illegally take over your land without your consent or compensation and request that court directs the government to change the land back to your name in the recoeds-

February 12, 2025 at 1:43 pmIf SC has passed and order, there is something that has happened as SC normally reviews the land records before giving a judgement. I am sure you can find a copy of judgement online which might give you an idea of how this happened. Since this involves 500 acres, the government is definitely involved. Someone in DC office might have the details. -

February 12, 2025 at 4:48 pmYes I agree with the above poster, better to first get Encumbrance certificate for your land, that is by entering all the survey numbers for which you have the deed for.In Tamil Nadu, the government has made the service free of cost if you go to download the same on your mobile/computer.
Also, which district are you in? If you don’t mind us asking.

February 12, 2025 at 3:38 pmSupreme Cout will never transfer land titles. It will only validate legality of a transaction.Local officvials made the changes. Start there and work outwards on how these changes got done.
Company should compensate you for the land and it possibly has been siphoned out by the local officials.
File a case in the local court and get some media coverage.

February 13, 2025 at 12:09 amThe Land Revenue Department Records, the Jamabandi records, are not a title document evidencing ownership. As long as you and the other villagers have the original title documents, you can challenge this.
Further, a companies activities and documents are public knowledge, the documents can be accessed through the Ministry of Corporate Affairs website. Any such big purchase would have been disclosed in the financial statements or board report for that financial year.
Please feel free to reach out to me, happy to discuss and help you out!
