March 25, 2025 at 5:18 pmHi everyone as the title suggests,
do we have any specific laws around night shift allowances or is it specific to the discretion of employer.i was working in night shift for a while now and now the word around is we will still be working in the same shift but the allowance will be stripped away.
Just trying to understand if this is even legal.

March 26, 2025 at 2:42 amNAL but knowledgeable in LL. It is not legally required under any labor law for employer to provide additional night shift allowance over the wages in India. Factories act used to prohibit women working in factories in night shift but that was amended in early 2000s too. Shops and establishment acts for different states have different restrictions about allowing transport to female employees, ensuring safety, etc in night shift but none of them asks the employer to pay a night shift allowance.
