BMy Father had purchased an land and made patta also but one politician also had only registered that land in 1997 but dad bought in 2002 and in 2022 or so when Highway project started that politician saying my land is ours and when my dad and he agreed to divide land 50 50 original old land owner daughter saying that they didn’ sold land and put up case on dad .And now the lawyer asking for 10 lakhs for 2 cases .Just cant understand if he fighting a high profile case or what asking for 10 lakhs .We are middle class person dad retired 70 years old .Where shall we bring 10 lakhs now. to give to lawyer.Unnessary mess .All running after money .

WA case against politician?
The only loser will be you.
The winner will be the lawyer and politician here.
If you are smart, don’t trust any lawyer in this scenario, try defending your own case by studying the law, use lawyers for consultancy only to accompany you.
Because if you are blindly going to trust lawyer by giving him 10 lakhs
You will lose the land AND 10 lakhs.
Also your time, money and life.
First use basic first principles to understand if the land is worth the hassle?
If there is too much land? Go into the case like a lawyer and understand each detail.
Most lawyers handle multiple cases, they will never fight for you like your life is on the line.

BWere getting 2.2 crore from Highway authorities but politician demanded money to be split 60 40 and 3 years case pending .No one got any money only we loosing money on court hearing and after mutual agreement of money sharing 50:50 that old land owner put up case on dad .Still not even single rupee got .
Other people near by land all got their money and enjoying only we are left behind how much bad luck

SWonder what the Supreme Court judges are doing. Why not cut the corruption in this body supposed to enforce justice. They have to abolish all laws by which a non owner can claim lands no matter whoever and for whatever time they have stayed. Some group of people need to join together to eliminate all these corrupt men and establish honesty in India. I am sure citizens wouldn’t mind supporting such mafia if they were to eliminate such nuisances

OP conveniently withholding the valuation of land. Probably the valuation is something based on which the fees has been decided.
And remember, there are two cases or very different nature. One is a suit for declaration and the other is reference for enhancement of compensation.
It’s a common practice to charge x% of enhanced compensation or the valuation of the property. Although the same is looked down upon, the lawyer will get quote his own fee based on those calculations.
Tl;dr if the valuation is assumed to be 1Cr, 5 lakhs or 5% for one case is not expensive.

AGAIN WHAT IF WE REFUSED TO GIVE FULL 10 LAKHS .ON WHAT BASIS ASKING FOR 10 LAKHS SUCH HUGE AMOUNT WHAT HE DID ONY FEW HEARING AND PUT COUNTER OBJECTION THAT IT AS MY OLD 70 years DAD CANT’ TRAVEL 500 KM BY TRAIN TO THAT PLACE .HAD WE BEING IN SAME LOCATION DIFFERENT THING.ITS A LOOT OF OUR RIGHTFUL MONEY .

MI won’t go into the merits of the case as it’s something I’m not completely aware of.
As for what would happen if you refuse to pay the fees, I assume you guys must agreed on x amount of fees if the demand of 10 lakh was subsequently made. In the case, take the case back from the lawyer and engage someone else.

Bactually few days back lawyer called dad and said in local language that case is clear ( i means he only had coaxed that 3rd party to make a case out of nothing just to extract money) .And told 10 Laths he shall take fees.
No agreement was made to give that much money .ONly he heard from other lawer that we getting that amount so he became greedy .had we known then we could have search other lawyer .Another irony is that that politician and lawyer are neighbors in locality and lawyer taking huge amount of money and made a big house worth crores .
I shall tell dad not to give money 1-3 lakhs but not 10 lakhs .
