Legal advice for college admissions

I need legal advice on something, recently when I was taking admission for masters in college they said I should take the hostel and it is compulsory, is there any law that prohibits management from forcing children from taking up the hostel.

Staying in the hostel is not mandatory unless its a residential program. At best it can be a recommendation and in some cases a practical way of managing course complexity.

Yes, it is a residential program, but is there any way I could avoid it cause they said if your house in the perimeter of 5 kms, it’s alright, but mine is nearly 7kms . Is there anyway I could avoid this like I can show I’m having a history of digestive issues or any other medical issues . But need it concrete
