February 9, 2025 at 6:31 pmHey Reddit,I recently had a terrible experience at Ferrara – Osteria Diner in Bangalore, and I need some legal guidance.
What Happened:
I ordered a vegetarian pizza, being a pure vegetarian my whole life.
I finished eating, and only then did the staff inform me that they had mistakenly served a non-veg pizza.
They did not charge us,and hence we don’t have any bill. I was unknowingly forced to consume meat, which is a huge violation of my beliefs and trust.
I am emotionally distressed and want to take legal action against them.
What I Need Help With:
1. Can I file a consumer complaint without a bill? (I have other proof like online reviews, potential CCTV footage, etc.)
2. Has anyone successfully filed a case for misrepresentation of food in India?
3. What kind of compensation can I seek?
4. Do I need a lawyer, or can I proceed through the consumer court portal (edaakhil.nic.in)?
5. Should I also report this to the FSSAI or other authorities?
If anyone has experience with similar cases, please share your insights or next steps. I want to make sure this doesn’t happen to others.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! 🙏

February 9, 2025 at 6:41 pmTake quarter glass of warm water and add 10 heaped teaspoons of salt in it and dissolve. Then stir it and drink it. You will vomit in 5mins. Now the non veg is out if you and you can continue your vegetarian existence in accordance to your beliefs.
And in future please do eat at vegetarian only establishments. -

February 9, 2025 at 7:09 pmLawyer here.India does not have the concept of punitive or exemplary punishments, especially in civil litigation matters. There have been many previous such instances in our country, and the financial awards are usually a few thousand Rupees, occasionally not even covering legal expenses.

February 9, 2025 at 7:27 pmNaldid you not notice it in your first bite or slice? your second, third or fourth? (as a non vegetarian its pretty obvious to me)
it was definitely a human error on their part, as a restaurant this isnt supposed to happen
but they did not force you to eat it….as per my understanding:
for compensation, they didn’t charge you, and they apologised, does this really call for the legal route or are you trying to squeeze out a few extra rupees?
also since you are oh so emotionally distressed, you can find plenty of ways to induce a vomit.

February 9, 2025 at 11:32 pmMeat is chewy or a bit rubbery, (unless it’s fish). So, if it’s not the case. Then i don’t believe you and you seem so self confined and just wanna create a nuisance. -

February 9, 2025 at 11:40 pmThere are many case laws which has dealt with the same issue. There is a privity of contract between you and the restaurant as soon as you place an order, so going to court for such breach of trust and deficiency in service is justified.Problem is going to consumer court also requires you to prove consideration. Since you have not paid, this might be a problem. Consideration is not always directly linked to payment.
I will suggest contacting with a lawyer, you maybe able to file a police complaint for hurting your religious sentiment. Based on that, you can proceed legally. You can also file complaint with fssai with misrepresentation of food.
Mind you, don’t be discouraged by comments here, you do have the right to peaceful enjoyment.
