My friend worked at Wipro for two months in 2022 but had to leave due to personal reasons without serving the notice period. Before leaving, he even contacted HR on call, and they only mentioned that he would not receive an experience letterโ€”no mention of any legal consequences.

Now, in 2025, he has received a legal notice from Wipro(via K**IN Law firm) regarding this. It’s not even mentioned how he is liable to pay that amount. It claims he owes โ‚น13,701 + 12% interest due to a “negative settlement.”

Can Wipro take legal action against him for this?

What should be his next stepโ€”should he respond to the notice?

Has anyone else faced this situation? What was the outcome?

Any legal insights or advice on how to proceed would be really helpful.

          Lawyer here.

Ordinarily, it doesn’t make much sense to file a case against an Employee for such a small amount. All the more, after a period of about 3 Years. Your friend may like to contact the Company to ask them what the matter is.

It is also prudent to Reply to the Legal Notice as it makes sense to not leave a written allegation unattended.

He did recieve 3-4 mails about it over the time, but ignored them.
Also, how should he reply to the notice?

Reply should be sent by a Lawyer.

In case they sue him, can they also demand more than this amount, compensation for lawyer and other charges?

Yes, they will demand more amount. Answering whether they will get that or not is far beyond the scope of a Reddit Comment.
