April 3, 2025 at 4:58 pmA couple of years ago, an ex-colleague reached out to me for financial help due to a family emergency. Initially, I declined since we were no longer in touch after she left her job, and I also moved to a different organization. However, I later reconsidered and lent her an amount I was okay with losing if things went south.Eight months later, she asked for more money, saying she would return both amounts together or at least the new amount within a day, citing bank transaction issues and urgent medical needs. Later, I discovered she had used similar excuses with multiple ex-colleagues, borrowing money and selectively repaying only those who pressured her enough.
When I had to chase her down for my second loan, I finally got some of it back after repeated requests and eventually having to shame her into paying. For the remaining amount, she kept giving new repayment dates and even had the audacity to ask for more money, which I refused. After numerous ignored calls and messages, I finally lost my patience and warned her of legal consequences. This led to a family member calling and promising repayment within two months—only for her to repeat the same cycle of ghosting and broken promises.
At this point, I am not even mad about the money. If I get it, great; if not, so be it. But I do want to teach her a lesson for the sheer dishonesty and disrespect. Since she has pulled this on multiple people, it borders on fraud. What legal options do I have that are effective yet low-effort? I just want to make it clear that ignoring people’s patience has consequences.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

April 5, 2025 at 6:57 pmThank You. Is the legal notice valid for such cases? And Cyber because they are falsely taking money from various friends and relatives and in a way scamming people.-

April 5, 2025 at 7:02 pmOfcourse, it is valid. You’ve loaned out money to someone who has failed to return it, and it’s a legally enforceable debt, so you can go ahead with issuing a legal notice. But this does not fall under the definition of a cyber crime. I’m a lawyer myself, so if you need any assistance, please feel free to reach out.
