January 27, 2025 at 7:13 amI have a friend (32F) who has been in a relationship with her boyfriend (32M) for the past 2 years. When his parents found out, they didn’t want them to get married. Her family was supportive, but his parents threatened to self-harm, and he was forced to marry a family friend’s daughter 1 month ago. The marriage was a proper wedding with all rituals, but they haven’t consummated the marriage. However, he wants to be with his girlfriend (my friend) only. What legal options does he have now? His wife is still unaware of the situation. If she isnβt willing to go for a mutual divorce, on what basis can he apply for divorce? Would he need to pay alimony? How long would the divorce process take?
I know this is morally wrong towards the wife, but it was wrong for his parents to force him into this marriage. He canβt take it anymore. His girlfriend (my friend) is devastated too. His parents might again threaten self-harm, but heβs determined to stand up for his love.
What can be done in this case?

January 27, 2025 at 7:20 amHe should have stood up for his love before ruining his present wife’s life by getting married to her. This is awful to the wife and I really hope they get divorced soon. But at the same time, what kind of spineless folks! What was the wife’s mistake in this mess? He could have let her know before marrying her.-

January 27, 2025 at 7:40 amOP divorce is a lengthy process and will easily consume 5 years of time.Once this goes into court things will come out and there will be strain in everyone’s life.
If she is ok to go down this path then ask the husband to file for a divorce. This will be quick if it’s mutual. Though I don’t think it’s going to be easy as socially no one wants to marry a divorced woman due to stigma and all.
Your friend really need to reevaluate if she really be after someone’s husband? Marriage is a sacred relationship and courts won’t give divorce easily.
My comment – shouldn’t this be asked by the husband why are you asking this question. From a third person perspective it looks like your friend and you are trying to break the Marriage.

January 27, 2025 at 7:58 amHey thank you for the reply. I want my friend to get out of this. Why would i want my friend to be with guy who couldn’t stand for her before the wedding. I have tried convincing her But he says he will take divorce and my friend is ready to wait. I want to know legally how difficult it is going to be. My friend has been through a lot and I really don’t want her to wait and suffer more. I personally haven’t seen cases of mutual or non mutual divorce and how long it takes. So I wanted to know.
