UI’m not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I’m posting this in case someone can help. My best friend’s family has found out about her relationship and strongly disapproves due to caste issues. There is a potential threat from her family, and they fear for their safety. They want to get married as soon as possible but have little hope that the police will help. What can they do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

BI am not a lawyer. But sharing this based on acquired knowledge.
Two consenting adults can do a court marriage without police help. Both living in Tier 1 city away from disapproving family makes it that much easier.
On a lighter note – I love this my best friend or my friend posts on social media across the subjects lines.

UYes. Aware of the court marriage option but they’re more anxious about what comes after it. Like, caste is a huge issue with the family.

For the subject, they should document some of the threats from family regardless if they are overt/covert.
One can go register this as real threat to life compliant after court marriage with police or a magistrate if police doesn’t take it seriously.
