DOver the past 2-3 months, gold worth approximately ₹2 lakhs has gone missing from my grandmother’s almirah. Initially, we thought it was misplaced, but I recently installed a hidden camera in our storage area. Just one day after installation, I caught the house help opening the almirah. While I don’t have a video recording (cloud storage was off at the time), I do have clear screenshot evidence showing her opening the locked almirah without permission.
Concerns:
• I strongly suspect she has been stealing regularly and selling the gold over time.
• I want to file a police complaint, but I’m worried they won’t act seriously.
• My family is hesitant because the house help belongs to a Harijan community, and they fear a possible backlash if we confront her.
• I also want to gather stronger evidence before taking legal action, but I don’t want to put my grandmother at risk by keeping the thief inside the house longer.My Questions:
1. How should I approach the police to make sure they take this seriously?
2. Since the gold is likely sold already, what legal options do I have to recover any losses?
3. Is there any way to check if she has sold the gold in local shops?

Buy fake gold. Put it in the almirah. Wait for her to steal.Now present your entire case to your lawyer and file a case of theft/robbery/whatever suits the case best. File a case. Make sure whatever has gone missing is recovered through the case.

DBut when she gives up the fake gold during recovery then its like you tried to defraud the police saying actual gold was lost.
The only way is to confront her by self or with police and try to get the gold back.

ik high risk but it’ll build a good argument that she stole it now and she did before too and if she’s caught and y’all say yea we caught you she may confess the past times-
DBut there is no complaint from previous thefts. So she can allege its made up. Legally there is less scope.
Only way is to catch her redhanded with less expensive metal, and threaten with FIR and arrest, and that complaint will only be taken back if the maal from previous thefts are returned.
