CHello. Everytime I make a call, that audio (as we all hear it) is played and until its complete the call doesnt go. Its not only an inconvenience but in times of extreme distress, causes additional problems. I want to file a case/PIL/something else related to this and effectively get this nonsense removed. Please direct me to resources as to how I can move forward. I have free time and not a lot of money, so cant pay for legal advice right now. Is there an existing case regarding this? If not, then I shall start one. Thanks in advance!

BTill that happens, use a sureshot solution, as soon as you hear that verbal diarrhea – disconnect and re-dial. Works everytime.

SI get that it’s annoying but no court is going to entertain that PIL. The argument against your PIL would go something like this ” That audio has the potential to stop fraud in crores of people/ warn people about diseases, etc., etc. Hence it is more important for the public good.”
And this is me a non-lawyer speaking. A lawyer can come up with far better nuanced arguments.

CEx- mother is dying and in the middle of a heart attack, I wont be able to call for an ambulance on time because of the audio being played. Family has health issues and this audio is making my anxiety worse

SThis is like the trolley problem – save one or save 10.
Also I don’t think emergency services like 100, 112 have this audio playing although I might be wrong.

AWhy does judiciary work just considering the utilitarian theory? Where’s the duty ethics? I know our judiciary is not up to the mark, but atleast they can work on their core principles?

SOP is the one who wants to file a PIL. The first word of PIL is Public. The court has to take into account which action benefits the public more.
Maybe start thinking logically instead of emotionally and you will get your answer.

EThat’s probably true but do we have any numbers to back that claim? Like has the rate of fraud gone down since they added that bit of audio?

SNope. I don’t have any data and I doubt the government keeps any data of this sort. But the counter argument to this point could be that it is the Government’s responsibility to warn the public. If the public still decides to get scammed then it’s on them. Similar to how before cyclones the ICG and Navy warn fishermen to not venture out but you’d still get a few cases of them going out.

SIt’s so irritating every time I make a call, had few fights with my close ones, bcoz when I tried calling they were busy so 2-3 calls tunrs into 6-7 calls.. But mate Indians are weird creature, we will get irritated for it but when people get scammed they blame govt that why are they not doing anything, after so many awareness campaigns, fraudsters are still scamming people with call forwarding, digital arrests. So I don’t know what’s the solution but this is the inconvenience I’m willing to tolerate if it saves many people from scammed. But they should find some better way.

AThis doesn’t save people from getting scammed. What will save us from getting scammed is, investing in secure and end to end secure systems, not some bs pre-call audio

AHow does our data go to these scammers? Who exactly is selling this data? And why don’t we have a system in place that prevents this unethical data selling, or misuse of the user database? Don’t you agree that our data is sold without our consent, just for a few bucks?

Every single private company now deals with data as they are more valuable then ever and you cannot just stop this with simple methods
We have to bring the data protection laws of eu but that’s the difficult part as even us has not been successfully implement them so our chances as null

VFkn so irritating. They should give a slightly complicated technical way to disable it permanently. People who don’t know how to disable it might benefit hearing that PSA then. People with two brain cells can stop pulling their hair out.

BIt’s quite evident that pressing the hash (#) key or some other numerical key doesn’t work for everyone.
My theory is that this is telecom based. These key presses are called DTMF inputs, and there are a couple reasons why they won’t register but a major reason is telecom interoperability.
Can you guys comment on your Network Providers and circle on where this surely works?
Sorry for being off topic but this audio makes me want to jump from a roof.

SYou mean the cyber crime PSA? It doesn’t stop your call from going through, it just replaces the caller tune so the other person’s phone is still ringing while you hear the PSA

PNot true for all providers. For airtel i can say for sure that the ring doesn’t go through and only starts after this stupid announcement is over

EI think while it’s making announcements, in the background, the other person phone is ringing. If they pick up in between, the announcement stops and you can make out how it works.
Just because the other person picks up the phone late, doesn’t mean the network is making us wait.

EI have Airtel. So many times when I’m hearing the announcements and in between the person picks up. I’ve never heard the full announcement ever cause whoever I call, they pick up in one ring or two
