I am an Indian doing my masters in the UK. I am dating a British guy and we want to get married in India. What is the process we have to follow?

          It depends on various factors
          Do you want british citizenship?
          Does he want indian citizenship?
In which country both of you want to spend your life in?

Right now we are planning to leave the UK after my masters and go to the UAE or Europe for work. He’s working here in the UK. I have a good work experience. But we don’t want to be in the UK. So we’re planning to work in Dubai or Europe for a few years and settle in India. Maybe after 5 years. He loves India a lot so that’s going to happen.

But I guess we have to give a notice of marriage before doing it. India or the UK, based on where we’re getting married. It’s very confusing.

For him to get citizenship, he should be married to me right?

Yes, a British citizen can acquire Indian citizenship through marriage, but itโ€™s not an automatic process. Under Section 5(1)(c) of the Citizenship Act, 1955, a person who is married to an Indian citizen can apply for Indian citizenship by registration if they have lived in India for at least seven years before applying. This means they must have stayed in India for a total of seven years, with a minimum of one year of continuous residence immediately before the application.

Additionally, India does not allow dual citizenship, so the British citizen must renounce their UK citizenship upon receiving Indian citizenship. The process includes submitting proof of marriage, residency documents, and undergoing background verification by the Indian government.

Are you stupid? Can you read all my other replies before judging me? I’ve clearly mentioned that he loves India and wants to settle there eventually. And I’m not going to “make him give up” anything.

Thereโ€™s no way for him to get Indian citizenship without giving up British citizenship dumbass

Hey moron. I was asking about the wedding process and not citizenship. We know that there’s no dual citizenship in this case. So stfu and mind your business. I don’t need your help. Oh btw, he doesn’t care that he has to give up his British citizenship. He doesn’t want to be in the UK anyway. So keep your stupid advice to yourself.

First of all, calm down. He wants to get married in India because he likes the culture. He wants all my family members to be there. We are planning on having a Hindu wedding in India and a white wedding in the UK (later).
