February 1, 2025 at 12:33 pmMy sister got married in 2008. Her marriage has not been good since then, but she continued to live there because of her child. Due to stress, she became sick. They have frequent fights, and sometimes she stays at our house. But when her husband comes and promises, ‘This won’t happen again,’ she goes back. Sometimes, relatives also come to take her back to her in-laws’ house. She always agrees to return because she doesn’t want to destroy the marriage. However, in our family, my mother is a single parent and has arthritis, so she cannot walk properly or manage everything alone. My sister recently found out that her husband is having an affair. He has also beaten her and thrown her out of the house before, but she still compromised and stayed. However, this time, she has decided to leave the marriage. She has some chat evidence of his affair.
The problem is that she has a 14-year-old son who seems to take his father’s side because his father spends money on him. We tried to report the issue to the Women’s Cell and the One Stop Center, but they keep pressuring her to ‘give him another chance’ and stay in the marriage. She does not want to live there because her life is at risk. What if they try to harm her?
I know she took a long time to make this decision, and people keep asking why she waited so long. She does not have strong proof apart from chat evidence of his affair. He mentally abuses her, which has caused her serious health issues like ulcers, asthma, and gluten allergies.
Please help me. What should I do? I really need your advice. 🙏🏻

February 1, 2025 at 1:43 pmLeave. She can’t save even her son before herself. Her son has seen only wrong examples in his parents – an abusive father who buys love of his son with money AND a helpless mother who suffers through everything. Sorry it’s harsh but if your sister leaves, she saves herself the additional trauma, sets and example for her son that a line is to be drawn howsoever late.
Give your sister support-

February 1, 2025 at 2:37 pmThank you for your perspective. I completely agree that my sister needs to prioritize her safety and well-being. It’s heartbreaking that her son has been exposed to such a toxic environment, and I really hope he understands the truth one day. We are trying to support her in leaving this situation, but it’s difficult with the legal system and family pressure. Still, we are standing by her. Your words mean a lot, and I appreciate the encouragement.-

February 1, 2025 at 3:03 pmShe needs to leave and court cannot make her go back at all. Get her into therapy as well and speak to lawyers around you. I can’t comment on custody but a lawyer might be able to help. It’s a known fact that women go back atleast 7 times to their abusive partner before finally leaving. I am hoping this would be it for your sister.

February 1, 2025 at 2:24 pmLet her leave the son with father. It would be very difficult.. but if the father has a 14 yo son.. it wud be very difficult for him to continue the affair…. and if he does continue.. the son would also see what a pathetic parent he is-
