My mother in law was chatting with blinkit customer care in blinkit app to add her address because she was not able to. Then she got a call from supposedly a personal number and it was showing customer care in the true caller. So she believed it must be from blinkit. She said her phone went blank for a few seconds. Then she was asked to transfer one rupee in the QR code shared to her. Then the call got disconnected. After some time within 1 minute in multiple transactions and amount of 2 lakh was directed from her account. The Audacity of The scammer was such that when called back he was abusing and was feeling proud of his achievement. She has filed a police complaint, but people with similar experiences can anyone please help how can we recover the money back.

The story makes no sense. There is no way to install anything on a phone by calling a number. Even scanning a qr code cannot by itself compromise the phone.

This is not a story. During the course of the call with the scammer the screen went just blank, possible the hacking or screen sharing so that he could see the upi pin.

Unless your MIL installed an app/app that he sent there is no way this can happen. I’m speaking as a software developer
And scanning a QR code once cannot make multiple transactions. In which app did she scan the QR?
Either your MIL is not telling you the whole story or you aren’t telling us

When you say the screen went blank, this must be possible only if your mil’s phone has an app or an apk installed. Check if there is any. That’s the only way the scammer could have blanked her screen.

Something is missing from this story. Some remote access apps have the ability to hide client side screens so if the screen goes white, she has a malicious app on her phone.

I think he might have asked your MIL to install an app, which she installed and asked her to send one ruppe he monitored the screen through the app and then he made transactions of 2lakh since they now has access to the credentials.

The transaction limit for UPI is 1 lakh per day only.

Were the transactions UPI or NEFT?

                              NAL.

were you present when this happened?

I am suspicious about her version of story.

Yes, scammer took the money, but was it just a scammer or she’s chatting to some stranger online and not some customer care?
