        Hi everyone!

I (28f American native) was recently faced with the decision that I may have to move to Gurugram within the next couple years. It’s a move that I’m quite excited about, but I want to make sure I’m thoroughly prepared if I decide to do so.

My main concern is that I do not understand or even know where to begin when it comes to Indian Law. I realize I can just google it, but I’m very overwhelmed by all the info out there. I want to understand all of my rights, what’s legal, what customs are normal. I don’t know what to expect. Especially as a woman (and specifically a white, foreign woman).

I would appreciate any and all resources you may suggest! Preferably in English. I am fluent in Hindi / Devanagri, but I feel that I would feel more comfortable understanding topics as serious as these, in my native language. TIA!!!! πŸ™

(My knowledge on this is literally at a 0% so please, even if it seems silly or minor, sharing would be appreciated).

(Also- I would be moving/living with my partner who is Indian and grew up in Delhi, so I would have insight on local customs. I have asked about these concerns, but would like to do my own research.)

Sorry. I corrected it, as that is not what meant! Thanks. (I’m used to posting native English speaker, as I’m on lots of Hindi learning platforms.)

Mate, I don’t think you need a deep understanding of the law as the problems that you might deal with are just local customs and traditions. Post this on India subreddit or Delhi subreddit as you might get better answers there…

If you want to know more about the fundamental rights then I’ll share a soft copy of our constitution though only Articles 12-35 are related to fundamental rights and you don’t need to read them either

Some laws are specific to states like in some states, liquor is banned while in others beef is banned so might have to rely on google to know the specific laws like this and constitution won’t help you to figure them out

Getting work authorization is not easy. Education may cost you more. You will be a novelty if you live in a non-tier 1 city. HIPAA and anything along those lines is non-existent. Spurious products market themselves under established brands. Traffic is chaotic. Kids may find it a problem to get USC. Eating beef is discouraged. Safety is an issue. People are nosy. Your partner can help set your expectations.
