My father is an alcoholic and has been abusive my entire life. He divorced my mother using triple talaq and forced her to sign a notarized document saying that 25% of his (disputed) property will go to my youngest brother.
(We dont even have copy of that document and his lawyer refuses to give copy)
He lives alone, does drugs, and is involved in land fraud—he tricks people into paying token money for a property that’s in legal dispute and spends that money on alcohol and drugs.

Last year, when my grandmother passed away, I traveled from Mumbai to Gujarat with my wife and performed all the funeral rites. My father didn’t attend, even though he lived just 80km away. When I called him, he started abusing me on the phone. I tried to file a police complaint at the local station, but they refused since the call wasn’t made when I was physically in his village.

Recently, I got a call from one of his old friends looking for his number. When I passed the message along, the abusive calls started again. He hurled filthy and dehumanizing insults at my wife, and my mother—including things I can’t even write here.

Fed up, I drove to his village with my brother to confront him. Locals who are close to him protected him—he pays them off with money from his fraudulent land deals. I tracked him to a bootlegger’s house (alcohol is banned in Gujarat), confronted him, and in a moment of anger, I slapped him. I didn’t escalate it further because honestly, he looked like he has destroyed himself already. I left and came back to my mother’s place.

Now, a local who was with me during the confrontation called and said my father is planning to file a false robbery complaint against me and the locals who helped me. He hasn’t filed it yet, but plans to tomorrow. I have a voice recording of him admitting he’s drunk and someone advised him not to go to the police because he was intoxicated.

I’m scared this is going to turn into a legal mess because of local corruption. He’s doing all this just to extort money out of me—he knows I’m doing well and that’s what this is really about. in the past even paid for his hospital bills when he was sick last year.

What can I do legally to protect myself in advance?
Should I file a preventive complaint or NC? Can I use this voice recording as evidence? What legal steps should I take if he files a false FIR? I’m currently at my mother’s place, but I’m willing to travel again if needed.

Any help or guidance is appreciated.

If you couldn’t get him implicated, he will not be able too. These things require heavy bribe. An addict will preserve money for the substance, not waste it like this.
