March 11, 2025 at 6:45 pm**TL;DR:** My **8-year-old active Jio number** vanished overnight. Jio claims it **doesn’t exist**, even though I have proof of usage, recharges, and SMS from them. Customer care is clueless. Need advice!I’ve been using my **Jio number for over 8 years**, regularly recharging it without any gaps. It’s my **primary number** for everything—calls, data, whtsp, OTPs, etc. It has **never been inactive**.
**What Happened:**
* Yesterday at **6 PM**, I got a **message from Jio** saying my recharge would expire at **10 PM**.
* I opened the **MyJio app** to recharge, but my phone showed **“No Service”** and **“No Network”** for my Jio SIM.
* I waited, thinking it was a temporary issue, but by morning, it was **still dead**.
* I tried **resetting network settings, restarting my phone, and inserting the SIM into another phone**—same issue.**The Shocking Part:**
* I visited a **Jio Store**, and they told me my number **does not exist in their system!**
* Online customer care also says, **”This is not a Jio number”** 🤯
* My number has **vanished from their records as if it never existed**.**I Have Proof:**
* **Google Pay recharge history** for this number
* **SMS from Jio** till yesterday evening
* I’ve been using this number **continuously** with no break**Customer care is also confused** . No one can explain how my number disappeared overnight.
**Has anyone faced this issue before? How do I escalate this further?** Is there any way to recover my number?
**What I’ve Tried So Far:**
✅ Visited a Jio Store – They were shocked but had no solution
✅ Contacted online Jio support – They say “invalid number”
✅ Tried inserting the SIM in another phone – Still no network
✅ Checked for unauthorized SIM swap or port-out – No evidenceI’m planning to **email JioCare and escalate to TRAI/Consumer Court**, but I need advice from anyone who has dealt with similar cases.
**What should I do next?**
**Update:** Will post updates if I find a solution. If this happens to others, Jio needs to be held accountable.

March 11, 2025 at 6:55 pmI’m taking a wild guess but it seems like your number got ported to some other operator. I would strongly suggest to register a FIR regarding this and also make a written complaint to JIO about your sudden number disappearance.-

March 11, 2025 at 7:39 pmi dont think it got ported because if it got ported then it should not shown it as an INVALID number or this No. does not exist when i create an account on any platform with this number , its like my combination of 10 digits numbers just got vanished from the whole phone directory LOL.-

March 11, 2025 at 11:57 pmIt does, unfortunately.
I have had the misfortune of having to deal with this when moving operators (was requesting for an itemised bill to claim some reimbursement from my employer), but Jio couldn’t trace back my number -

March 12, 2025 at 5:03 amLuckily, Indian telecom market has no other player so I would say you could call to other VI, Airtel and BSNL customer care and inquire about your number. Since it’s private information you wouldn’t get much help and info but you will know whether your number is ported or not.-

March 12, 2025 at 6:12 amThis might be some glitch in jio internal system which deleted the data from the db or some update they did. Easiest to check is if you call the number what is the response. Ask Jio to give you a new SIM with the same number.-

March 12, 2025 at 7:37 pmThis means the noone else has your number. Jio just deleted it from their servers. So ask them to issue new sim with the number.

March 12, 2025 at 1:28 amA few months ago , I experienced the same thing , but with Airtel. I had that sim since 2005 and all of a sudden, airtel had no records that such a sim existed . Customer care finally said, it’s because I’ve not done KYC. I was made to a new sim card because they said there’s no way of restoring services for that old number.
After getting the new card, I was told to ‘port’ my new phone number to the old one …and that solved the issue ..-

March 12, 2025 at 12:03 pmI got a new airtel sim ( with new number) .. during the same sitting in the customer care centre, I applied via a written request that my old number be restored.. and after a few hours, the new sim was linked to the old mobile number…
I dunno the technicalities involved and so cannot explain it further..-

March 12, 2025 at 12:07 pmOkay, new sim with old number. Got it. What happened to the “ new number “ that came with the new sim? Do you have it? If yes, how does that work? One sim can receive calls and sms for both numbers?I’m extremely curious. Apologies.

March 12, 2025 at 12:15 pmI guess the new number gets expunged ..
The whole experience was quite tedious .. one needs to do this exercise in the original circle where the old sim was purchased.. for me , that meant having to travel to another state..-

March 12, 2025 at 2:19 pmThat’s not called “porting new number to old number”. What you did is, just got a new sim card for the same number. This happens often in the case of loss of sim. You go to their office and they give you a new sim card for the same number.-

March 12, 2025 at 5:46 amHappened the same. The number was gone like that. No records, nothing.I had ported my airtel number to jio back in 2019. I had produced my MH Driving Licence for KYC. Everything was good for 8 months and then one evening, it happened. Exactly the same way you described. Fortunately, in my case, I approached regional Jio office and they offered to apply for release of number so that they can allot it to me under postpaid scheme. The number got released to airtel pool though and i had to approach airtel to get the same number back. 3 months later, i got it converted to prepaid. Entire process took 4 months. Nobody had an answer as to why this happened, but after some digging, i found that MH DL was no longer a valid KYC document (digital india my foot). Could be the reason why it happened.
What you can do is, approach regional Jio office. Ask them to get the number released. They’ll allot the number to u, but it will be postpaid. You can apply for conversion to prepaid after 3 months. You wont get back the recharge amount back though. Sadly, it is what it is
