UI put my hard earned money to finally spend on a pair of Airpods. And the same day of their arrival – they got stolen. I have a feeling my maid took them because no one else was at home during those hours. She saw the delivery happen. She’s never done anything like this before for many years. But I don’t have proof and I know it couldn’t be someone else.
The box and the serial number are still with me along with the original purchase invoice. They are just about 3 kms from where I live. But the location is so shady that even food app delivery riders do not go and deliver easily.
What should I do? I’m thinking of reporting to the local cops and firing an FIR for the supposed theft. But is my word enough? I’m really stressed. What’s the best course of action for me for me to try and secure them back? Please help!
P.S: The Airpods are very much showing in Find My Device on my iPhone so I know where they are. Just hard to say if I will find them at the same spot or whether or not it is even accurate.

UMake sure to mark as lost.
Yes FIR will do. Will be easy since find my. Walk in with the cops.

LOn the find my app. If you lose something, you can mark it as lost and it’ll constantly ping its location. Plus it’ll be more difficult for someone else to reconfigure it.

UAirPods find my location is super accurate FYI. Once you get close to them, your phone can show you detailed directions towards the device, like 20 meter forward, 5 meters left etc. It’s worth a try to go to the location and politely request access inside the house/building.

UFiring is fine. So you’re saying I should mostly threaten her a little and then actually file FIR? With the hope that she’ll give them back, right? I can tell her exactly where they are and then see how she reacts.

UNo. She’s in a different place. But I know she probably passed it on to someone else for some money or something. It’s an assumption at best for now but yeah different place.

SIf you are taking the police route, and if you think she is the one who did it, do not inform her that you can trace the exact location because she can snitch and it will move places.

SBefore involving the cops, try to find the airpods. take a friend or a cop with you but in disguise. I have seen many posts of people who found their airpods using the “Find my location” feature.

AGo to cops, don’t tell the maid anything or she might give it to someone else and deny stealing.
I suggest you visit the place w the cops, get it back and then file a complaint.

UGotta be honest it’s done for, unless you recover in 24 hours at max (the later the worse) it’s good as gone

PWe faced the same issue, showed the maid the location on the phone, which was her home and she brought it back saying she took it by mistake.
