May 3, 2025 at 8:32 amHello,I’m reaching out on behalf of my grandmother, who is from the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu. Her situation is as follows:
* She was the first daughter from her father’s first marriage. Her mother, an educated woman who completed university, passed away (when she was 30) when my grandmother was young.
* After her mother’s death, her father remarried and had two more children (let’s refer to them as A and B).
* The second wife allegedly prevented her father from being involved in the lives of his children from the first marriage. Consequently, my grandmother and her siblings (2 others) were deprived of education and other opportunities, despite their mother’s educational background. They were married off at a very young age
* In 2010, the son of A took my grandmother to the registration office and had her sign documents, which she later realized relinquished her claim to her father’s property. She was not fully informed about the nature of these documents and had no legal representation at the time.Given this background, we are seeking advice on the following:
1. **Property Records:** How can we find out what properties her father owned in the area?
2. **Legal Recourse:** Is there any legal action we can take to challenge the documents signed in 2010, especially considering the possibility of coercion or lack of informed consent?
3. **Inheritance Rights:** What are the inheritance rights of daughters from the first marriage in Tamil Nadu, and can they be reclaimed or challenged in situations like this?We would appreciate any guidance or suggestions on how to proceed, including what kind of legal assistance we should seek.
Thank you in advance for your help.
