My HR says Employment verification will be on hold until relocation dues are paid

I had horrible experience staying in the hotel they provided.. They have deducted 60% of relocation expense out of my salary. I don’t think it’s fair to ask for the rest. My HR says “Employment verification will be on hold until the dues are paid”. Is this legally possible?

That is very odd. Maybe escalate this to HR head / looping in company owners. Should try to avoid legal threats if possible.

You should communicate with HR in writing, state that linking factual verification to disputed dues is improper, request the verification needed, and express willingness to resolve the dues issue separately; if they persist, consulting a labor lawyer is advisable as withholding basic verification could be seen as undue pressure and potentially hinder your future employment prospects.

There has to be more context here. Whats the organization ‘s hotel policy? Did you book a suggested alternate, or whatever hotel you liked ?

And why is the verification dependent on relocation due? What type of verification is this?

I’m not sure about the Org’s hotel policy. I stayed in the hotel they provided.. I was sent an email to pay the dues for Full and Final settlement.. when I requested for a waive off they declined and stated “if the dues aren’t paid the Employment verification be on hold… “.. I think what they mean by employment verification is the Background Check the companies do before hiring..
